FET #1 side effects...so far

Wow, where did the week go!  I can't believe it's been eight days since my last post.  There really hasn't been much happening with this FET cycle, especially in comparison with my last (fresh) cycle.  My next appointment with my RE is on Friday so until then, I'm still taking Lupron once a day, Estrace twice a day, and baby aspirin once a day (and of course prenatal vitamins once a day).

I'm down to 5 units of Lupron instead of 20 units, which makes the shot taking much easier and my stomach less bruised.  Also, I have not experienced as many hot flashes or as much constipation as I had with our fresh cycle (I know you love hearing about that!).  However, I have been moody...and I've been having, oh how to put this delicately for my readers who know me IRL, dryness in my lady parts.  Not.  Fun.  At.  All.  I imagine it's similar to what all women experience in menopause.  Actually, I know it's the same since I was forced into temporary menopause from my meds after my surgery for endometriosis.

But enough of that fun topic; back to my mood swings.  I feel crabby for no reason at all, and unfortunately, DH has been the receiver more than a few times.  Thankfully, he is the most calm and patient person I know so he hasn't let it affect him, at least not that I know of.  But my crabbiness from the fertility meds is nothing compared to the crabbiness I experience with PMS.  So maybe this is more like a break for DH.  ; )

I've also been really tired the past five days or so.  I fell asleep twice on the couch this week while watching TV with DH...actually three times if you count yesterday after my aunt's funeral and before dinner for my hubby's birthday.  This is very unusual for me.  I'm normally more active in the evenings after work with going to the gym or reading blogs or writing in my own blog or taking care of things around the house or getting together with my girlfriend CA, etc., etc.  And this has definitely not helped in the weight department.  I'm afraid to step on the scale and all of my pants are fitting much tighter than they used to; some of them I don't even wear anymore because of how poorly they fit now.  I'm hoping this side effect is only temporary, that is, unless I have a successful FET at the end of this month!  Then I will welcome the weight gain - well, as much as one can welcome weight gain!

So in a couple days, I will increase my Estrace to three times per day.  Then at my doctor appointment on Friday, I will find out my schedule for the Progesterone in Oil shots.  I've read a lot of good tips on other blogs about how to make this shot easier to take, like using a heating pad on my backside before and after the shot to help avoid what's known as "lumpy butt."  Can't wait for that!  Ok, maybe not.  And hopefully, the sleepiness and weight gain won't get worse as I increase my meds...

  1. I'm sorry about the loss of your aunt. If your body is telling you to sleep, then sleep if you have the time to! I am wishing you all sorts of luck with taking so many shots and not getting "lumpy butt." :)

    1. Thank you. She was my great aunt and had been unwell for sometime so I know she is in a better place right now and having a ball with my mom!

I definitely sleep when my body tells me to but I miss exercising like I used to.

  2. Sorry about the mood swings and sleepiness. Aren't these things we're supposed to deal with once we actually GET pregnant? No fair that we have to go through it beforehand. But in the end, I do hope it's worth every bit of it. Just take care of yourself and I'll keep hoping and praying for you on my end!

    1. LOL, I was thinking that too...that these are side effects of actually being pregnant! Hopefully it's preparing me for the real deal.

  3. Sorry to hear about the side effects. I have been feeling extremely tired lately too...I thought it was just me, but maybe it is a side effect from the meds. I am going to choose to believe it's our bodies getting us prepped for pregnancy side effects! Good luck with the shots!

    1. I like your way of thinking - that it's our bodies getting us ready for a real pregnancy!

  4. I've never had to take lupron or estrace but I can only imagine the havoc they're causing with the bod. Hang in there. I've heard about PIO and the effects but "lumpy butt" made me laugh out of no where. :)

  5. I hope everything gets betterand that you get to feel exhaustion from pregnancy instead of fertility Meds. It sucks that you have to feel crappy while trying to conceive. Wishing you the best at your Friday appointment!

    1. Thank you! I totally agree that it sucks feeling like this while TTC but if it ends with a BFP, I'll happily deal with it.

  6. I hear ya on the sleepiness. I took a three hour nap on Saturday, and I never nap! I would say I hope you feel better soon, but pregnancy brings its own fun hormonal experiences, so I hope you don't feel better soon! Not for about 9.5 months. ;-) Oh, and am I really going to get lumpy butt? I've never done PIO before, and I'm seriously dreading it.

    1. Thank you for the (un)well wishes! I hope I don't feel better for another 9+ months either. ;)

I'm dreading the PIO shots too. I haven't started them yet but I'm sure I'll blog about it when I do.

  7. PIO is not too bad...check out my blog for some advice...no lumps on my butt and it has not been the worst pain

    1. Glad to hear the PIO hasn't been too painful for you. I'm most concerned about bruising after the shot is administered; I'm not so worried about the actual shot itself. I bruise easily so we'll see what happens.

  8. I am totally going to use the tip about warming the shot before you inject it, thanks!

    1. I had my first PIO shot last night and did not use the heating pad. I have a little pain in my backside, kind of like how a bruise feels, but it's not bad. Yet.

  9. Lupron is the worst! I can get pretty moody on that sucker, but thank God that side effect will go away. FET are always easier than fresh in my opinion except for the progesterone oil. I always have a lumpy butt so got to go check out other blogs for advice. Good luck!

    1. I've found Follistim to be worse than Lupron for side effects. Thankfully, I'm not taking any Follistim for this cycle.

    1. Thanks!! Glad you don't have many symptoms from the Lupron. Hopefully, you'll get by with minimal to no side effects for this cycle.

  11. I remember sleepiness while on meds, not fun! Can't wait to hear how your appointment goes today.

No tips for PIO shots as my clinic didn't use them. It was always suppositories for me. yay, not really. lol

    1. Suppositories are not fun but at least they don't hurt like with the PIO shots, which aren't fun either.

  12. I found your blog through ICLW, though I forgot to sign up for it myself this month.

I hated Lupron. I swear the drug was going to make me go crazy.

    1. Thanks for stopping by my blog! I will definitely be over to visit yours. ICLW has really been a blessing for me; I could not make it through this process with this much strength without all the support from those who have found me through the ICLW.
